This important feature, for which Ringmer is known throughout the world, was founded by Mr John Christie in 1934 as an addition to his country house and garden. Thanks to his successor, Sir George Christie, the original smaller theatre was replaced by a new one opened in 1994 to accommodate 1,250 people. Glyndebourne is a major operatic centre in the UK and has a long standing association with the London Philharmonic Orchestra - Link to LPO. |
